Nat Strickland (they/them), performing under the moniker Butt Mommy, is currently based in Chicago. They began experimenting with effects in 2011 in noise and punk bands, and one-off solo projects in Virginia. After a long hiatus, they now use effected viola, vox, samples, hand percussion & synth to create an interactive, meditative sense of melancholy.

∆ Melon Sprout makes sound with hand-made ceramic instruments which range from discrete shaker boxes to monolithic drums. These instruments are activated in high-energy performances which utilize high levels of amplification. Central to Melon’s practice is the percussive quality of ceramic resonance, which they amplify and process through a highly specialized signal chain. Melon’s ceramic instruments facilitate appreciation for the ceramic object’s inherent link to craft and function while encouraging viewers to deeply listen to the sound of ceramic.
