∆ alone-a, a solo vocal project of Minneapolis-based artist Alana Horton, explores the limits of memory and moment through vast tapestries of voice, digital delays, and densely rich signal processing. Every audible sound that is generated comes only from my voice, transformed through an ever-evolving Max/MSP instrument to surprising, chaotic, and ecstatic ends.
∆ maoϴ (liscentric.com) Working with spoken, prerecorded and generated language, maoϴ investigates the abstraction of touch as an arbiter of meaning through the use of languages he may not speak. maoϴ performances involve the use of language processed using a self-built palate controller: an oral retainer-based device which allows control data to be produced based on the touch of the tongue against the roof of the mouth, notably during speech production.
∆ Paige Naylor is an experimental vocalist and multimedia artist whose work aims to bend time, transform space, and create new social and emotional realities for/with others through repetitive sonic textures, storytelling, and electronic extensions of the voice and body. Her latest solo album was released in February, The Unearthing, through Chicago label Monastral.
∆ Maya Nguyen is a Vietnamese-Russian interdisciplinary artist who gathers speech fragments, urban recordings, body movements, migratory routes, sounds imitating nature sounds, and videos of daily encounters into open-ended works. Her practice excavates the power relations in human interaction and the environments that facilitate them, focusing on the domestic sphere, colonial subjects, migratory routes, and the relating between the human and the natural world.
∆ Anna Johnson creates at intersections of performance, sound, moving image and installation to explore the natures of intimacy and interrelation as they manifest on emotional and spiritual registers within the body. With vocal expression as her artistic center of gravity, her practice foregrounds somatic experiencing— an attunement to the internal sensations and needs of the body and nervous system. Through improvisation, she engages play and ritual as interwoven creative processes.
