VOM GRILL (Antwerp, Belgium)
VOM GRILL is the sonic byname of Dennis Tyfus, whose label Ultra Eczema has been defining and defying the European underground for more than 16 years with punk prints and prank calls, cassettes, LPs, zines, tattoos, and recently even a soccer team. VOM GRILL brings his tangled and crackling throat tricks and damaged electronics to the USA to tour in support of the new LP, “Sierbeesten” (Alien Passengers). There is nothing more vexing than the relentless transformation of everything.

DOG LADY ISLAND (Michigan)
Except for the scattered stories of Gamble Gore, little is known about the early work of Michael Collino. A scorching form of violin forged in the basements and warehouses of Detroit, Gamble Gore involved Collino in live performance with a chance collaborator billed misleadingly as his brother Ferris. His published output, as far as we known, begins with an unnamed contribution to “Cellar,” the first track on the acclaimed Wolf Eyes album “Always Wrong.” What follows is an obscure history of cassette releases fusing violin with the diminishing presence of manipulated metronomes, singing bowls and shortwave radio. In 2012, Collino settled into a series of extended works under the name Dog Lady Island, including “Folk of the old flood and loud doom” and “The stop circle of singing”—each increasingly bleak and severe, expressing, in his words, “a terrifying concern for the sound of real things.”
